Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator Review

Having read the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, I was naturally excited to try out the Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator. Shaped like a tube of lipstick and coated in silver and black, it really looks elegant and smooth. The dimensions allow it to sit comfortably in the palm of my hand or be tucked away into a purse, and along with its USB charging makes it an ideal toy to use while travelling. Although I really like the overall look, shape and feel of the toy, unfortunately the vibrations just weren’t the type my body responds to and is why I gave it a score of 7/10.

When shopping for vibrators, the main features I want to know about are:
- The material– is it toxic or porous (i.e. contains phthalates)? Is it body-safe?
- The quality and type of vibrations– is it rumbly or buzzy?
- The noise– I don’t live alone so is it super quiet?
After that, I still want to know about other aspects like how it can be used, how to charge it (or replace the batteries), the cleaning and care/storage, pros/cons, and overall opinion of the reviewer. This is the order I’ll cover the features of this vibe, so if you’re just skimming you now have an idea of where to find what you’re looking for.
1) Material
The Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator is made of ABS plastic and is latex- and phthalate-free, meaning it is non-toxic and made of body-safe materials. It is also fully submersible in water, so it can safely be used in the tub or shower. The waterproof feature is great for taking foreplay, and the toy, from the bathroom to the bedroom (or vice-versa). The smooth, mirror finish on about 80% of the vibe adds a silky sensation and transmits the vibrations from the motor wonderfully, especially when used in combination with lube. Although silicone toys can also feel “silky”, the gloss finish of this bullet really allows the toy to glide over the skin more easily (in a very pleasurable way), and I found I needed to use less lube with this bullet than with my other toys.
2) The quality and type of vibrations
Ah, the vibrations. Arguably the most important aspect of a vibrator toy, these were unfortunately the part of the toy I liked the least. On the positive side, the Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator has a strong motor that delivers consistent vibrations which transmit easily along the glossy length of the vibe. The patterns are also really different and unique compared to any other vibes that I have tried, which I found really impressive and added some cool diversity to my toy collection.
What I liked the least about the vibrations were their buzzy quality. My body responds more to deep and rumbly sensations as opposed to shallow ones because I find that after a few minutes my skin can get irritated or uncomfortable and is sometimes too much for my clit to handle even if I’m not focusing on it directly. That’s not to say that the toy delivered weak sensations at all (they’re actually quite strong for a bullet vibe), just that it wasn’t the type of stimulus that my body personally prefers.
 3) The noise
This vibe has an average noise level, not being super loud nor super quiet. It’s definitely not as loud as plug-in vibes like the Hitachi or some rabbit vibes (like Fun Factory’s Miss Bi), however it’s also not as quiet as some of my other toys (like the We-Vibe Touch). The noise can be muffled somewhat if used under the covers, but I wouldn’t recommend using it with someone in the next room.
4) How it can be used
There are 12 vibrations and speeds to choose from, which are easily cycled through by pushing the button located on the base of the toy. The hard plastic handle is easy to hold and the button is easy to find during use. To turn the toy off, simply hold that same button down for a few seconds. The settings can only be cycled through one way, so if you accidentally switch vibration modes you have to press the button 11 more times to get back to what you were previously using. I can imagine that being quite frustrating, but on the plus side I didn’t have any problem with accidentally changing modes so that shouldn’t happen very often. The toy always starts on a default setting, so you have to scroll through the modes every time to get to your preferred pattern, regardless of what setting it was on when you used it last.
The Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator is meant to be used as an external clitoral vibrator, but can be used around the vaginal entrance for shallow penetration and teasing. It is not meant to be used internally since it is quite compact (it is a bullet vibe after all) and since it doesn’t have a flared base it isn’t suitable for anal penetration. The glossy surface along the body of the vibe allows the toy to be used lengthwise to glide or roll over the clitoris, vulva, or along the body while the rounded tip can be used for more pinpoint stimulation. It’s small enough to be used comfortably during sex with a partner in multiple positions and since it’s completely waterproof you can also use it to spice up a bath or use in the shower.
6) How to charge it
The Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator comes with a black USB-converter cable so that it can be charged via computer or laptop, which is super handy for travelling and is more eco-conscious by not having to replace batteries. It is possible to charge the vibe in a wall outlet but you need to buy a USB-compatible wall charger separately (I found one pretty cheap, for around 10 pounds or so).
There is a small grey rubber seal near the base of the bullet that can be easily popped off to expose the outlet that the other end of the USB cable can connect to to start charging the vibe. Before first use, you should charge it for 150 minutes (2.5 hours) and it should last for 80 minutes. Since I could only use it 10-15 minutes at a time before the vibrations would become slightly uncomfortable, I got several uses out of it by using it as a fore-foreplay toy (it would get me in the mood but I wasn’t able to climax with it). The charging cable connects easily and firmly into the outlet and I found that it charged well and didn’t disconnect if it was nudged or bumped accidentally.
7) Cleaning and care/storage
The Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator comes with a silver satin storage pouch that is large enough to hold the vibe, the charging cable, and a sample/travel size tube of lube if desired. It can be cleaned either with sex toy cleaner or with antibacterial soap and water after each use. I used soap and hot water and it cleaned quickly and easily without attracting dust or lint. Although there is a joining seam between the silver gloss finish and the black matte base, the seam is well sealed and it didn’t make cleaning more difficult at all.
9) Pros/Cons
Pros:
-non-toxic, phthalate- and latex-free materials, body-safe
-USB-rechargeable and charging cable connection is strong (won’t disconnect accidentally)
-waterproof
-smooth, glossy finish for a silky gliding sensation
-great diversity of vibration settings
-sleek and sexy look
-compact and perfect for travel
Cons:
-can only cycle through the modes in one direction
-the vibe doesn’t remember the last setting it was on and always resorts to a default setting
-buzzy vibrations (personal preference for rumbly vibes)
-a bit loud for those with limited privacy
10) Overall Impression
Although the Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator fell a bit short of my expectations due to its predominantly buzzy vibrations, I have very little negative to say about any other aspects of this toy. I personally wasn’t able to climax using this vibe but I would still recommend it for those who know they prefer buzzy types of vibrations. Since it is body-safe, waterproof, USB-rechargeable, sleek, travel-friendly, has a wonderfully glossy surface, and a strong motor with interesting vibration patterns, it is an overall well-made vibrator.
Unfortunately, due to the buzziness and noise, uni-directional cycling pattern, always starting on a default setting as opposed to the last pattern used, and that I wasn’t able to climax with this toy, I could only give the Fifty Shades of Grey Pure Pleasure USB Bullet Vibrator a 7/10.
