Durex Sexlection Box
Pleasure Panel review by Carnal Queen
I think we’ve probably all just about recovered from the over-indulgences of Christmas, but you might still be at the stage where you’d wanna punch me for flaunting chocolate selection boxes in your face. I know, I get it, we’re in a new year, resolutions and all that jazz! Have no fear though, this is a totally different kind of sweet selection box made by Durex for Valentine’s Day, and it’s aptly named the Durex Sexlection Box – D’ya see what they did there, ey?
So, what’s in the box?
Durex Thin Feel Condoms (12)
Durex Play O Orgasm Enhancing Gel (15ml)
Durex Play Vibrations Cock Ring (1)
Durex Thin Feel Condoms (12)
I’ll admit, as a rule, myself and my OH rarely use condoms for sex, but we have used these thin feel condoms in the past, and it was fun to revisit them for the purposes of this Durex Sexlection Box review. Durex make some fairly bold claims about their thin feel condoms …
‘Try Durex Thin Feel condoms that while, still providing the same high level of
reassurance and protection, they’re shaped to be easier to put on and provide a sleek fit and feeling during sex’
… so, are they realistic claims? Well for me, yes and no. Sure, they’re thinner than your average condom, but they’re the same teat-shaped design that we’re used to seeing, and in reality, we find them no different in fit or how they go on. It looks like a regular condom, and it goes on with the same amount of effort as a regular condom would. I know people can dislike using condoms because they feel that they impede their pleasure during sex. These thin feel condoms don’t really feel much different to me during intercourse, it’s obvious to me that there’s a sheath between me and my OH, and I think it feels just like any other condom would, but my OH is definitely aware of the difference between these thin feel condoms, and regular ones. He’s certain that he can feel more than he usually would, with a regular condom, and has said that they provide him with the closest-to-nature condom sex he’s ever had. That’s obviously a huge plus for him, and he’s happily admitted that if we needed to use condoms all of the time, these would be his choice. They do have a distinct condom smell, and because of this, I’d only use them for oral sex with the addition of a flavoured lubricant.
Durex Play O Orgasm Enhancing Gel
This was the first ever product of this type, that I tried myself, years ago, soon after it’s launch by Durex. It works because of the addition of arginine in the ingredients.
Arginine helps increase blood-flow to where it’s applied, and therefore makes the area more responsive and sensitive. I really liked it when I first tried it, and trying it again as part of this sexlection box has certainly been interesting. It kind of messes with your head, because it gives you a feeling of warmth and tingle, as well as giving you a cool feeling too, depending on what you’re doing. If my OH blows on the gel once it’s been applied, it’s like an icy blast, which I can only liken to drinking freezing cold water after cleaning your teeth. It’s got a very menthol smell (think dentist spit juice), and although it can be used for oral sex, there’s no way I’d be using it for that – well, not unless I wanted to confuse my tongue anyway! Besides, it tastes pretty rank to me! The feelings and sensations I get from it, last about 5 or 6 minutes for me, and at times it feels quite lovely. It is a mind fuck though, and I can see that some women might find it uncomfortable, or too strange a sensation for them. It certainly does increase sensitivity for me though, and it’s definitely worth trying and experimenting with. The gel is condom friendly, so no worries there at all, but check the ingredients list doesn’t contain elements that you’d have issues with.
Durex Play Vibrations Cock Ring
This is probably my least favourite product in the box. It’s a one-use vibrating cock ring that runs on pre-installed batteries that can’t be replaced. Lasting around 20 minutes, the ring could be re-used if you were done before the batteries die, but because of the material it’s made from, I probably wouldn’t recommend that. Durex doesn’t offer the material info up on the packaging or their website (bad Durex!), but from investigation on the internet, it seems the jelly rubber used to make the stretchy cock ring, contains phthalates. It’s worth doing some research into phthalates, to make sure you’re making informed decisions on products you buy.
Anyway, the cock ring is waterproof, and fairly quiet, but it’s incredibly buzzy. I don’t like buzzy vibrations, they annoy my skin and eventually desensitise me. They don’t penetrate the skin tissue, instead they just tickle the surface, and sound like an angry bee. I also find the shape of the ring to be a little uncomfortable for me, because the horizontal nature of the bullet means it’s bashing my labia awkwardly. Not to mention the fact that the bullet doesn’t always reach my clitoris during penetration. Me being on top certainly helps this, but to be honest though, I find it all more annoying than pleasurable.
If you have experimented with sex toys already, like me, you might think it’s just pants. If it’s your first outing with toys though, you might like it, as it’s certainly a place to start if you’ve never tried a vibrating cock ring before. OH says it’s comfortable, and the single button control makes it easy to use. You can use the ring with a condom, just be sure to put the condom on first.
Collectively, I’d score the Durex Sexlection Box 8/10. That might surprise you, but I like this box and the idea behind it, for many reasons. First off, it’s great value for money! You’re basically just paying for the Play O gel and getting the rest for free. Maybe you use the condoms already, so for a few extra pounds, you’re getting to try two new products, which is a pretty good deal! If you don’t use condoms, don’t write the box off either – Sometimes the ‘mess’ associated with sex isn’t always wanted or appropriate, depending on where you are. Why not use the condoms for spontaneous sex, perhaps in unusual places, to spice things up a little? I also love the box because I think it’s a great, gentle introduction if you’re perhaps looking to introduce new things into the bedroom. It’s inoffensive, and a bit of fun, and could be you first tentative steps into a whole new world.
However you use this, have fun, and Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours.
