Best Bondage Erotica 2013 by Rachel Kramer Bussel

Pleasure Panel review by Angechaotiques

Let me start with a couple of details about this book, Best Bondage Erotica 2013 by Rachel Kramer Bussel. Firstly, this is not a standalone novel, it is a collection of twenty two short stories by various authors, brought together by Rachel Kramer Bussel. Rachel has edited over forty anthologies so she is rather experienced in choosing what would be regarded as the “best”; hence the title of the book.

Whether you want to sit and read the Best Bondage Erotica 2013 by Rachel Kramer Bussel anthology from start to finish out cherry pick the stories that you find most intriguing one by one, this book will not disappoint. You could have a small interest in the world of bondage, just the occasional flutter of thoughts of ropes, chains, handcuffs and silk ties. You could be well versed in the art, a veritable expert and full time Dom[me] with your own personal dungeon and a handful of submissives bound to and suspended from various fixtures. Either way or anywhere in between, I’m sure you will find pleasure in this collection!

For me, what made Best Bondage Erotica 2013 by Rachel Kramer Bussel so interesting was the sheer variety held within. Two hundred and eleven pages, all revolving around a central concept but with each page, you truly never know what you are going to be treated to next. Female Domme, male sub? Male Dom, female sub? Male Dom, male subs? Switches? Ménages? You get it all in this collection and to add a little more spice into the mix there is even a smidge of non-con squeezed in there also. Surprisingly, there are the occasional very touching and heart-warming moments too.

Each story is involving, immersive and delves into the action right from the start. You can feel the intensity, sense the anxiety, fear the inevitable and quiver with delight on behalf of everyone that is brought to life in these pages. There is no time to get to know a character’s full background in a short story but we don’t need to, we need the here, the now, what’s happening. We get in, in spades! The joy of the short story is that it is ideal for making that commute home in the evening a little less tedious (if you can deal with the inevitable awkward public erection on the train!) without having the empty anticipation of what happens next. It’s done, it’s over, you got all you needed in that short intense burst. It’s like a steak – no need for it to sit braising, absorbing all the flavours over time, immersing in the intricate detailed flavours, developing slowly, tenderising… No, throw it into a sizzling hot pan, seal it all in, spice it up a little and serve!

In summary, there isn’t a bad thing about Best Bondage Erotica 2013 by Rachel Kramer Bussel. The writing styles of all the authors are completely different yet come together beautifully. There isn’t a single story I didn’t enjoy reading and I would seriously recommend this book to anyone with even the slightest interest in bondage. You may even learn a thing or two, I know I did!

I’ll rate Best Bondage Erotica 2013 by Rachel Kramer Bussel 4 out of 5 and that’s only because I never rate anything as perfect…!
