Naughty Business Report

Although I am the main man behind NBRplaza.com, I also blog anonymously under different pseudonyms on several other blogs. Ever since the internet became commercially available, I started writing for the web. Eventhough I became older (you do the math), am married and have several children and cats, I haven’t sowed my wilde oats. I have also published a novel a few years ago under my own name, but that wasn’t very succesful. Currenlly I am writing a thriller, and I hope to publish that later next year.

What’s your blog name/online handle and how did you come up with the idea?

The name of my webblog is Naughty Business Report, or NBRplaza.com. It’s kind of a long story, how I got that name. I was an early adaptor at the beginning of the internet. That where the days when everybody had realy strange nicknames. I used to go under a nickname ‘Riddim’, which I got from the hit song ‘Riddim [rhythm] is a dancer’. People started to call me ‘Natural Born Riddim’, which then lead to the abbreviation NBR. When I started blogging, I liked the idea to use that abbreviation, but somehow it should make clear that the blog was not at all about rythm, dance or music, so I changed that to Naughty Business Report.

Which country do you live in?

I live in The Netherlands and I blog in Dutch. I have blogged in English once, but I lost some of my Dutch fans when I started doing that. So now it is solely Dutch. My blog has a translate button, for everybody that can’t read Dutch (which I guess is 99.9% of the world population), but it is Google Translate, so ….

Approximately how long have you been sex blogging?

I started blogging in 2005. At least, under NBRplaza.com. before that I had some smaller blogs that I now consider ‘try-outs’. I started off at MSN and a free Dutch platform, but both kicked me out because of the nature of my content. I now have my own hosted WordPress.org site where I can post whatever I want.

Why did you start a sex blog or reviewing sex toys?

My first blogs weren’t at all about sex. In the early days of the internet, my blog was about pointing my audience to weird things I found on the web. A substantial portion of that was about fetishes and (odd) sexual behaviour. I have always been interested in sexual behaviour and that soon led to blogging about these sexual deviations. Not to just point and them to have a good laugh, but to help understand and explain to the larger audience what it was all about. I then started to add my own erotica and started to answer questions from my followers about sexuality.
I also have an affiliate shop and as part of promoting that shop I write sex toy reviews.

What’s your favourite thing about blogging?

I guess I just like to write. Or better, I like to be read. I never gave it much thought, but it must have to do with some kind of exhibitionistic features of my personality to be in some kind of spotlight and get attention. On the other hand, I never ever write for the sake of attention. But if my personal thoughts, opinion and view are liked, that gives me some kind of pleasure.

Do you use social media? If so, where can we find you?

You can find me on Twitter (@stout_besigheid, which is South African for Naughty Business) and Tumblr. I used to have a Facebook site, but for obvious reasons (obvious for Facebook at least) I had to stop that one.

Do your friends know you’re a sex blogger?

As a lot of sex bloggers I also have a horizontal and a vertical world. The horizontal world are my family and colleagues, and, besides my wife, they don’t know about my blog. But over the years I have made a lot of friends via my blog, that I also meet in real life. Those two worlds never get together and I keep them separated carefully.

Have you ever done anything specifically so you can blog about it afterwards?

I have. For some of the reviews I tested sex toys and stimuli (such as Kamagra). But before that I experimented with things like tooth paste and ginger to blog about. Also, a large part of the erotica (I never tell which part) is based on experiences.

Do you take part in any blog memes? If so, which ones?

There are some Dutch memes that I take part in. The Dutch ‘Erotic Writers and Artists’ (EWA Nederland) has a meme called #thewa that I take part in. Also EWA has an annual writers marathon and this year I will take part in that for the second time. Last year I made it to the semi finals, so this year I aim to win.

Share with us a funny or interesting experience that’s happened to you in the course of your blogging.

The most peculiar things happen when you write about sex, but I am still astonished when female readers ‘offer’ themselves to me. Women often complain that men can’t behave in Twitter DM, but let me tell you: women can be as bad as men, when it comes to that. I’ve had offers of women who would like to be tied to the bed and let me do “whatever I want” to them. My wife doesn’t always like that kind of ‘fanmail’, and I don’t blame her.

Will you still be blogging in 5 years time?

The internet has changed a lot over the last decade and I guess it will be over the next. Social Media comes and goes and technology changes over time. What Twitter is today, were the MOOs and chatrooms in the ’90s. Will I stop blogging in the current form? I think it is inevitable. Will I stop writing and interacting with my audience? Never!

If not already a professional blog: would you say you’re looking to earn a living from blogging eventually, or will it remain a hobby?

Since 2005 I have always tried to earn some money with blogging. Be it with banners or my affiliate shop. I earn just enough to pay for the costs of blogging and have dinner with my wife once or twice in a fancy restaurant. There is not a big audience for seksbloggers in Dutch, so I guess it will remain a hobby.

Tell us about three other bloggers you admire, and why.

Together with EWA Nederland I started a Dutch sex blogger index where we score Dutch sex bloggers on both technology and content. At number one is Rebels Notes. This is a Dutch woman who blogs in English (so I guess it can be done?). She is quite successful with her blog and I know she works very hard to get where she is now.
The number two is Climaximaal. This is the only Dutch blogger who actually tests sex toys before reviewing them and does so independently.
The number 10 in that list is Luckymanbooks. Although he is the number 10, I still like to mention him, because he writes absolute phenomenal erotica in his own wicked style. For Dutch readers: you should get to know him!

If you review sex toys, what are the top three toys you wish you could get your hands on next?

I just heard that the Doxy Die Cast will be available at the Dutch market, and being a man, that sure looks really wicked! And I think one can never have enough glass or metal toys, so bring ’em on!

Who is your favourite adult shopping company, and why?

I must say that the Dutch company 210th is by far the best!. They sell great body care products (massage gels and lubricants) that are just amazing. The products come in great gift boxes. Also they teamed up with famous hotels and offer suites to enjoy a luxury and erotic atmosphere.

Do you prefer blogging fictional erotica, real life sex anecdotes or factual based content such as reviews and advice guides?

I like to combine those. The reviews are factual based on personal experience or experience from my readers. Also, I cover sex news, sex information and sex tips that I do a lot of research for. These have to be reliable and thus fact based.. But the erotica I write (and I sometimes post guest blogs with erotica) can be totally fictional. I started a new experiment last year, where one of my online friends reads out the stories and then I post the audio (audioporn – again in Dutch). I can tell you, that some of the arousal you hear in those recordings are very real!
