Hey, I’m CQ, writer, owner and chief sex toy maniac at Carnal Queen. Thanks for dropping by to read about me and my little blog, and thanks to Cara Sutra for hosting this fabulous Sex Blogger Spotlight Series!

If you enjoy reading about me and my website, why not pop by on my blog or on Twitter to say hi 🙂

Right, let’s get started…

Q&A

What’s your blog name/online handle and how did you come up with the idea?

Carnal Queen kind of evolved naturally to be honest. I grew up watching episodes of ‘Carnal Knowledge’ on TV (I have no idea why, but I loved that show) and so the word ‘Carnal’ kept cropping up in my thoughts. I played around with a few names, none of which I’m telling you about because they’re cringe-worthy, and I kept coming back to Carnal Queen. It grew on me until I was stuck with it!

Which country do you live in?

I’m from the UK, and have never ventured too far from here in my years. The world feels like a much smaller place since I started blogging though – I have friends, acquaintances and blog readers all over the world, and because of the wonder that is the internet, they’re just a click and a second away 🙂

Approximately how long have you been sex blogging?

Carnal Queen was technically born in August 2014 when I set up my website (or rather my wonderful Fiancé did, I’d be lost without his technical ability), but I didn’t start actively posting on it until the end of February 2015, so I’m still in my infancy really!

Why did you start a sex blog or reviewing sex toys?

I was encouraged (read railroaded) by my OH to start up my own blog. We’ve been going through some pretty heavy crap in the last 18 months in our ‘normal’ lives, and he wanted me to do something that would distract me and give me a focus far away from real life. Some days that works, some days not so much! He, along with a couple of friends kept telling me that my reviews were good (I’ve been doing it a few years under a couple of aliases here and there) so I eventually decided that I’d give it a go. Thankfully our problems haven’t been of the relationship kind, so our issues have just made us stronger as a couple, he’s my rock!

He helps and supports me along the way, and lets face it, most men aren’t going to complain when their partner keeps introducing new and exciting things into the bedroom are they!

What’s your favourite thing about blogging?

How long have you got? I genuinely love most things about blogging, I’ve worked with some amazing companies, tried some amazing (and not so amazing) products, and forged real friendships along the way. I love the feeling I get when someone messages me to say they loved a review or that they followed a recommendation and it worked for them – it inspires me to keep going. I love how far my website reaches, it truly does amaze me actually, and I really enjoy the social interaction you get so easily these days with your readers, it’s awesome!

Do you use social media? If so, where can we find you?

You’ll find me all over the place! Mainly Twitter and Facebook though 🙂

I’m also on Instagram and on the Lovehoney forum sometimes, where I’m known as Foxxy 🙂

Do your friends know you’re a sex blogger?

No, not as yet. I have a nosey family and I didn’t want to be faced with lots of questions about what I do. I think that it will possibly become less of a secret as time progresses, but I think when I do tell, I’ll be choosing to not shout my web address from the rooftops – my Dad doesn’t really need to know what gets shoved up my ass, does he?

Have you ever done anything specifically so you can blog about it afterwards?

I guess you could say I do, every time I try a new adult product! Other than that, not overly no. I obviously knew I’d write a blog after going to the ETO show for example, but that wasn’t my reason for going. I did recently dig out my craft stuff to make funky spunk jewellery for a blog post though!

Do you take part in any blog memes? If so, which ones?

What’s a meme? Seriously, I’ve heard of them but I have no clue what they are! I’m an alien in a strange world at the moment, I’m learning my way as I go! So, no, I don’t take part in any memes. *makes a mental note to find out what they are*

Share with us a funny or interesting experience that’s happened to you in the course of your blogging.

Erm, I really can’t think of anything funny if I’m honest, how boring is that? As for interesting, it’s ALL interesting, and at the moment it still feels like every day is a school day. Highlights so far have definitely been attending the ETO show under my own website name (I’ve been before, but with another company, it was weird and kind of nice to have my own name and site on my badge), and reviewing my first sex machine which I did recently. It was a surreal experience to begin with, being pounded by a machine!

Will you still be blogging in 5 years time?

I really really do hope so. I don’t know what will happen in the future, but it’s something which I definitely want to be doing for a very long time yet. Providing I’m able to, and that my readers still want to read my content, then I guess I’ll still be around!

If not already a professional blog: would you say you’re looking to earn a living from blogging eventually, or will it remain a hobby?

When I started, I’d of said that I wanted it to remain a hobby for sure, but as I grow, obviously it’s something that I’ve given some thought to. I want to keep my website fresh and exciting, and there is a cost associated with this, and to be perfectly honest, it seems like a natural progression for bloggers to make the switch to professional blogging as they grow – Who wouldn’t like to make money from something they love doing? For me though, if I do make this change, it won’t be for a while yet, I want to walk before I run!

Tell us about three other bloggers you admire, and why.

Just three? Jeez, that’s tough, so tough in fact, I can’t narrow it down! I think that most bloggers each offer something a bit different, and different people have different ways of doing things. Have a search about, there are some awesome bloggers out there, all writing amazing things!

If you review sex toys, what are the top three toys you wish you could get your hands on next?

  1. Lovearc
  2. Doxy Skittle
  3. Kiiroo Onyx & Pearl

In my dreams…

  1. Liberator Black Label Esse
  2. Beds and More Bondage Bed
  3. Sybian

Who is your favourite adult shopping company, and why?

There are lots I love, but Lovehoney will always have a special place in my heart. They helped springboard me into blogging via their sex toy testers scheme, and I love that returns policy! The staff are all pretty lovely too 🙂

Do you prefer blogging fictional erotica, real life sex anecdotes or factual based content such as reviews and advice guides?

At the moment I’d say I prefer reviews. I’m working on more guides and also hope to spread out more into the general article side of things, both on my own website and elsewhere. I enjoyed guest-blogging about prostate play recently for Kiiroo, so who knows, the future may hold more of that kind of thing. I’ve written erotic stories before, a long time ago, but I’ve not published any on my site… maybe one day!

Thanks for having me Cara, it’s been fun!

CQ x
