The UK Government Porn Ban

GOVERNMENT BANS KINKY PORN

SPANKING BANNED IN UK PORN

LONG LIST OF SEX ACTS NOW BANNED IN UK PORN

In case you missed the UK Government Porn Ban headlines, the Great British Government made the neato decision to ban a completely confusing list of sex acts in UK porn. I’ve been reading story upon story upon story regarding the subject and I feel like we might be (on the most part) missing the point here. If you hadn’t guessed, this is VERY MUCH an opinion piece.
UK Government Porn Ban Hella RudeWhile you and I can enjoy watching as much spanking, facesitting, pissing, fisting and whipping as we like within a few clicks, the porn stars, producers, distributors and retailers of the UK are about to lose a huge slice of their businesses. Unless they can secure international deals to film, host, buy or otherwise take the material off of home soil, they’re about to lose a shit-load of business collateral. We’re talking job losses, extinguished contracts, contraband stock and in some cases, entire businesses will have to shut up shop.

Not only will the variety and number of titles UK porn businesses produce in the future be vastly limited, the stars themselves are being forced to look for new business outside of the UK or be resigned to producing mostly vanilla material that’s 10 a penny AND pays like shit. It’s hard enough for the UK porn industry to compete with powerhouses in Germany and the USA as it is, where does that leave the thousands of UK men and women who have come to rely on pornography for a livelihood? In a much worse position than this time last week.

Those businesses with enough R18 material to keep afloat will find their creative nooses a struggle in an industry driven by variety, diversity and unique material. The new legislation isn’t about us, it’s about forcing the porn industry to change and not in a good way. It’s making everything harder for the performers themselves, who arguably are always at the raw end of the deal in the porn world. It’s making everything less lucrative for those who create the material. It’s hacking away at a successful and recession-proof industry and in the end, Britain’s coffers will suffer for Tory snobbery.
